CLSC Birthdays

March 18th, 2012

Jesse Vargas, or @clscunclejesse turned 24 yesterday. I’ve known Jesse since my sophomore year in high school. We played football together and I can still remember the first words he said to me. They were ,”How the fuck did you get that gnarly scar on your head!?” Awesome right? Throughout the years of knowing each other, there have been various situations where we have seen each other in the most intoxicated state possible. I was actually with him hours prior to his DUI he got hours before he turned 21. Such a shitty story.

My first job was working at Starbucks. I lasted a whopping 3 months until I realized I needed to leave. Jesse, at the time was working at Zumiez. I asked him if he was hiring because he was manager of the shop , and he had me come in a couple days later to starts as a sales. From there, Jesse trained me to become a fucking robot for Zumiez. Although I ended up getting fired and arrested for stealing from them, I learned so much about managing a store and staff like it was my own. From inventory control to payroll, Jesse was the one that showed me the way. There was one thing that made me realize how great of a friendship we had, and we talk about it all the time. After I was arrested and fired, Zumiez continuously asked Jesse about me and my whereabouts knowing we still hung out. Being the G that he is, he told them to fuck off and stop asking about me because at the end of the day, he was my homie and he just worked for them. I wish I could see their jaws hit the ground when he said that. They looked at him negatively after that conversation, and he ended up getting fired a few months later due to a bad inventory.

Ever since he got let go, Jesse really focused on what he wanted to do with his life. I mean, we both were hypnotized to become a DM for Zumiez at some point or whatever the fuck we thought. But it wasn’t until we left is when we realized there was more to life than just working for a shitty company that offered a 401k. Anyways, Jesse picked up a digital camera from his pops and started snapping. It was crazy, he would go on crazy far missions just to capture a shot he thought would look rad. Like to the beach and mountains and shit. Nobody really does that unless they’re really into something. Thats when we realized Jesse’s passion for photography would be a perfect fit to our team. We brought him on as a amateur photographer, and have watched him become one of the most talented videographers we’ve seen to this day. It’s crazy to see how he’s progressed in a matter of months. Now I can’t even keep up with the guy. From DJ’s to music artists to bigger clothing brands, Jesse’s work is being seen all over the place now. Congrats to that mother fucker.

So if you see him anytime soon, make sure to give him a solid high five and a late birthday shout out. If you’re lucky enough, he’ll squeeze out an autograph if he isn’t being chased by the paparazzi or upcoming videographers mimicking his every move. If not, sucks to suck.

Happy Birthday Jesse Vargas. You’re the fucking man dude.

Homies

March 14th, 2012

I don’t support everything my friends do, but I do support anything they work hard on. From clothing brands to skateboard companies to mix tapes. It always interests me to see what my friends have up their sleeves. For example, Alexander Spit just made a small run of t shirts to promote how much of a cunt he is and his fascination with drunk woman in back of cars. I met Alexander Spit a few years back when he moved to LA from the bay. Since then, we’ve experienced numerous long strange nights together. No, not like that you creep. I mean we’ve gotten so shit faced and ran through chicks at the cha cha like it’s nobodies business. Woken up on NRML and rushed to work with the smell of Jameson seeping through our pores thousands of times. Shit gets real with that dude.

We did a collaboration last year that went very well. Packed out the echo and made a limited snap back that I still get asked about. It’s not easy to find homies like that dude. And I appreciate his support like a motha fucka. So if you get a chance, get down to RSWD and cop a tee for $ 20. He made a limited amount so don’t sleep on it. And if you’ve been under a rock for the last few months and haven’t heard his new shit, click MANSIONS or THESE LONG STRANGE NIGHTS to download that new new. CLSC x ALEXANDER SPIT Pt. 2 coming this summer…

AND, if you’re going out to SXSW, he’ll be performing. Check out his shows HERE.

The homie Rob has to be one of the most humble dudes I know. From modeling in the Spring lookbook to even helping out with video concepts, Rob has earned our respect in the few months we’ve known him. He started his own skateboard company a few months back. Maliceous Skates Co. has now produced a skate deck, numerous graphic t-shirts, and the newest addition to the company , beanies. I was fortunate enough to receive one from him which is worn on my bald ass head on a daily basis. Shout out to the dude for being down with the get down.

We’ve spoken about a couple ideas to work together, but I’m not leaking shit to y’all. You’ll just have to wait. In the mean time, go check out his website and support one hard working salvadoreno. That means he’s from El Salvador for you weirdos that only speak english. Make sure to grab a deck or tee before they’re all gone ! Go NOW!

Support the real. Support your homies.

Thirty One

March 13th, 2012

One of the most frequently asked questions we get asked is , what does the 31 stand for? For those of you that know, you might want to skip this. For those of you that don’t; please, take a seat.

On September 9, 1850 ; California became the thirty first state of the United States. That’s basically it. You didn’t really have to sit down. But now that your’e sitting, I can explain why this number is used so often. Being one California based brand out of thousands, we needed to find a way to represent Cali without putting C.A. on everything. That, and as crazy as it sounds, CLSC became a brand on September 9, 2009. Yeah, crazy right? We thought it was cool that our brand was started exactly 129 years since someone decided it was a good idea to introduce  the greatest state ever made . If that makes any sense. So for those of you that get asked what the 31 means when you wear our products to the local pub, now you can share a little piece of CLSC history to hopefully, a really hot chick who cooks great breakfast.

B.I.G.

March 10th, 2012

I was in second grade at the time. I had crazy strict parents so I didn’t get to listen to hip hop or anything really. Fortunately, I had an older brother that would keep me posted on what was new and cool. I remember having my foot on the T.V. ready to click a channel up just in case my parents walked in. Shit was mad strict. But like every other kid, you find a way to get what you want. I didn’t know much about rap or hip hop, but I did know that I enjoyed it. Not too mention most of the videos were filled with thick woman and champagne. I remember my brother telling me that Tupac had gotten shot and it was all over the news. He was a HUGE Tupac fan so I heard about it for hours. He was saying that Notorious shot him and he knew that because of this song that had came out and so and so. I was young so I don’t remember exact details, but I do remember backing BIG because I listened to Juicy all the time and thought it was the best song ever. We got in a huge argument and didn’t talk for weeks.  He’s such a baby.

A couple months later, BIG was shot on the corner of Wilshire and Fairfax in a black suburban . It was all over the news that night. I remember seeing that scene with the yellow tape and  the suburban in the middle of the street with the windows shattered on the ground. I was so bummed. So was my brother, but he hid it well. Damn Tupac fan. Two weeks after his death, his album Life after Death released . That album was #1 on the charts for weeks and ended up going Diamond in 2000. Only a handful of “hip hop,” albums have received the honor of going “Diamond”. Im a huge fan, as you can tell by now. That’s why I took the time out of my day to write this. There aren’t many pictures of BIG smiling. So I figured I’d post this one. It obviously isn’t mine. I was like 8 and would probably smash a camera into the ground before I thought of taking a picture with it. We solute you BIG. Thank you.
